Senior Transportation Engineer

Planning, design, and construction administration of transportation infrastructure projects (i.e. traffic impact and other related engineering assessments, intersection engineering, highway design and construction, standard bridge construction, etc.). We require a candidate that has strong interpersonal skills, experience in project management, business development, people and resource management and proposal writing.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• B.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
• Registration with APEGA.
• 10+ years of previous project management and design experience.
• Knowledge of design, construction specifications, construction estimating, contract preparation, and contract administration.
• Familiar with the use of Softree, Alberta Transportation, City of Calgary and TAC design guides and other road design software programs will be an asset.
• Strong ability to multi-task and deal effectively with multiple opportunities and deadlines.
• Solutions driven, able to prioritize and make decisions in a timely manner.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, proven ability to maintain positive relationships with clients, and team members in order to maximize cooperation and achievement of deliverables.
• Combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead engineering design work, and construction administration for transportation infrastructure projects for rural or urban roads and highways.
• Complete traffic impact studies and functional planning assignments.
• Preliminary engineering of new roadways and pavement rehabilitation projects.
• Participate in road inspections and coordinate construction activities.
• During construction you may be required to be outside of the Calgary head office approximately 60% of the time.
• Liaise with existing clients and ensure their expectations are met.
• Lead scope changes through active communication and actions.
• Ensure exceptional communication with clients and internal team members to ensure timely flow of information, actions, deliverables, timelines and budgets.
• Mentor and supervise internal team members comprised of engineers, technologists, and project personnel.
• Oversee the preparation and review of contract and tender documents.
• Lead the preparation of proposal documents.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities.
• Recruitment of staff and building a team.

Geotechnical Engineer

Applicant will have knowledge and experience with landslides and embankment fill or cut slopes; soil-structure interaction problems such as bridge foundations and soil retaining structures; erosion control; frost heave; geotechnical problem mitigation projects, installation of slope indicators, piezometers and other geotechnical instrumentation, including monitoring of instruments and report writing.

QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 2 years experience in geotechnical engineering, superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a strong team environment is a necessity. Candidates must be eligible for APEGGA membership.

Senior Planning Engineer

Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Planning Engineer experienced in transportation planning.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help build and manage a planning department, oversee the development and evaluation of transportation plans, roadway corridor studies and long-range planning issues including multimodal issues and present study results to clients in public forums. Knowledge of the principles and practices of regional transportation planning and knowledge of transportation modeling and computer simulation is required.

Successful candidates will provide contract administration and construction supervision of roadway projects (grading, base and/or paving). Knowledge of roadway construction, surveying and/or quality assurance testing procedures according to Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation specifications and experience with EMXS and Microstation would be an asset.

Candidates will have 5 – 10 years experience in the respective field, superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work in a strong team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years experience in roadway design and/or construction supervision, and have superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a strong team environment. Successful candidates will have a degree in Civil Engineering and be eligible for APEGGA membership. A working knowledge of AutoCAD, LLD and EMXS would be an asset. Candidates with less experience will be considered for junior positions.

Responsibilities for this position include working in field laboratories completing quality assurance or quality control testing for grading, base or paving projects. Knowledge of soil analysis, soil compaction, asphalt concrete and cement concrete testing will be an asset.
